Who is responsible for this site
Plank & Post is an independent website operated from Paraguay. For data protection law, that makes us the "controller" of the small amount of personal information described below.
For anything about privacy, write to [email protected].
What we collect, and what we don't
What you type into the calculators. Nothing. The calculators run entirely in your browser. The measurements and prices you enter are not sent to us and are not stored anywhere.
Accounts and forms. There are none. We don't ask for your name, email address, phone number or street address anywhere on the site.
Email you send us. If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you put in the message.
Technical data. Like almost every website, the company that hosts this site, Cloudflare, keeps standard server logs. They can include your IP address, your browser and device type, the pages requested and the time. They exist to keep the site secure and working.
Advertising data. When ads are shown, Google and its advertising partners collect data through cookies and similar tools. That is covered in the next section and, in detail, in our cookie policy.
Analytics. We don't run any analytics or tracking tools of our own.
Cookies and advertising
At the moment this site does not show ads, so no advertising cookies are set. This section describes what happens once ads are turned on.
The site is supported by advertising from Google AdSense. When ads are shown:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
- These third parties may place and read cookies in your browser, or use web beacons or your IP address to collect information, as a result of ads being served here.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some other vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
To see how Google uses this information, read How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. The cookie policy lists the cookies involved and how to control them.
Why we use information, and the legal basis
- To deliver the site and keep it secure. We and our hosting provider rely on our legitimate interest in running a working, safe website.
- To answer you. When you email us, we use what you sent to reply, because you asked us to.
- To show ads. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, advertising cookies are used only with your consent. Elsewhere, advertising relies on our legitimate interest in funding a free site, and on the opt-out rights described below.
Who we share information with
We don't sell personal information for money, and we have no customer list to sell. Information is handled by:
- Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, which delivers the pages and keeps the server logs.
- Google, which serves the ads and receives the advertising data described above.
- Authorities, only if the law requires us to hand something over.
Some US state laws count letting advertising partners use cookies for targeted ads as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. You can opt out of that, as explained under your rights.
Where information goes
Our providers process data in the United States and other countries, which may not have the same data protection laws as yours. When personal information from Europe is transferred, they rely on safeguards recognized by law, such as standard contractual clauses.
How long information is kept
We keep email only as long as we need it to deal with your message, and we clear out old correspondence from time to time. Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for the period it sets. Advertising cookies last as long as the cookie policy says, unless you delete them sooner.
Your rights
Everyone
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to delete an email you sent us, and turn off personalized ads. Because the site has no accounts, in most cases the honest answer to "what do you hold about me?" is "nothing".
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland
You have the right to access your personal information, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its use, and to receive a copy you can take elsewhere. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time with the "Privacy and cookie settings" link at the bottom of any page.
You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
In US states with a privacy law
Depending on your state, you may have the right to know what personal information is collected about you, to have it deleted or corrected, and to opt out of its sale or sharing and of targeted advertising. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
To opt out, use the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link shown to visitors in those states when ads are active. You can also turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser. Where state law requires it, Google receives that signal and limits how it uses your data for the ad request.
How to make a request
Write to [email protected]. We'll answer within the time the law gives us. If we can't do what you ask, we'll tell you why, and you can reply to ask us to look again.
Children
This site is for adults planning home projects. It is not directed to children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection, and it has no accounts, passwords or payment details to protect. No website can promise perfect security, but there is very little here to lose.
Links to other sites
We link to other websites, including the sources our guides rely on. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
