Why bother
Try to find out what a fence costs and you tend to get one of two answers. The first is an article that says anywhere from a couple of thousand dollars to five figures, which is true and useless. The second is a form that wants your phone number before it tells you anything.
We wanted the boring third option. Type in your measurements, see the math, close the tab.
What we're not
We're not contractors, and nothing on this site is a quote.
We don't sell fencing, so no calculator here is steering you toward a brand or a store.
And we don't sell leads. We never ask for your name, your number or your address, so there's nothing to hand to anyone.
How the lights stay on
Ads. The calculators are free and the ads pay for the site. Advertisers get no say in the prices, the formulas or anything we write.
Where our facts come from
Prices are one thing. Safety rules are another, and we don't make those up. When a guide mentions a rule, it comes from the people who set it: the International Residential Code for railings and stairs, the Consumer Product Safety Commission for pool fences, the American Wood Council for deck framing, the EPA on treated wood, and 811 for digging. Each guide lists its sources at the bottom.
Codes are adopted and changed locally, so the last word always belongs to your own building department.

Every formula and every suggested price is on the method page, with the date we last reviewed it. If a number looks wrong for where you live, tell us.
