Fence calculators

Ten calculators for one job: working out what a fence takes and what it costs, before you buy anything or call anyone.

Which one do I need?

Pricing a whole fence? Start with the fence cost calculator. It prices wood, vinyl, chain link and aluminum for the same yard, so you can see what each choice does to the total.

Already settled on a material? The vinyl, chain link and aluminum calculators go further into the styles and options for that one fence.

Know your lot size but not the length of the fence? The acre calculator turns acres into feet first.

Buying the materials yourself? The picket calculator counts pickets, rails and posts, and the post hole calculator tells you how many bags of concrete to load.

And for the jobs around the fence, there's one each for gates, staining and taking an old fence down.

Fence prices at a glance

These are the suggested prices our calculators start from, for a 150-foot fence built by a contractor. They were last reviewed in October 2026, and every calculator lets you swap in your own.

How to read the numbers

Each estimate is a range, 15% either side of the math, because no website can see your yard. The formulas and every suggested price are on the method page.

None of it is a quote. It's a way to walk into a conversation with a contractor already knowing roughly what the answer should be.
